In Exodus 20, it clearly states,
Quote:
"Thou shalt not bo down thyself to them, NOR SERVE THEM: for I the Lord they God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me;"

It also says that the church is the bride of Jesus Christ:
Quote:
Ephesians 5:23-30

23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body.

24Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

25Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;

26That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

27That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

28So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

29For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

30For we are members of his body, of his flesh, and of his bones.

Regis Blackgaard and his men should be very careful for using the word church and raising himself to a position no man ought to take. Why should we serve you when you go against the Law that God puts forth in His Word?

You can have your ridiculous laws and practices, but as for me - I only serve one master.

Well said Sam =D>

(even if it is a little over the top for such a fictional story as this)

I fullheartedly agree.

Then again, Regis is just displaying his generally not so niceness...

While I certainly do not wish to defend the handi-work of one Dr. Regis Blackgaard, it should be noted that Regis has renamed "Odyssey" to "Regisville." Therefore, "The First Church of Regisville" isn't blasphemous so much as it is the name of a church in the town of Regisville.

Of course he also insists this house of worship has been constructed to verbally communicate our feelings about his "greatness", but that does not alter the fact that Regisville is the current name of our domicile and any church in this town, Christian or not, would quite possibly include Regisville in the name.

surely you jest! has dr. blackgaard gotten to you too, eugene?? i'm sure it is just late and you have been on the computer all night. don't you remember??:

(The word "church")
ETYMOLOGY:
Middle English chirche, from Old English cirice, ultimately from Medieval Greek krikon, from Late Greek kriakon (dma), the Lord's (house), neuter of Greek kriakos, of the lord, from krios, lord; see keu- in Indo-European roots

church

NOUN:

A building for public, especially Christian worship.
often Church
The company of all Christians regarded as a spiritual body.
A specified Christian denomination: the Presbyterian Church.
A congregation.
Public divine worship in a church; a religious service: goes to church at Christmas and Easter.
The clerical profession; clergy.
Ecclesiastical power as distinguished from the secular: the separation of church and state.

i hope dr. blackgaard is not claiming to have ecclesiastical powers now!!
:anxious:

I believe Sam was refurring to us having to talk about Regis in the church, or risk being called off-topic. :-

Okay sorry about that, I wasn't being too clear.

The church, in my mind, is not merely a building, - rather the ecclesiastical congregation.

And I was referring to this statement:

Quote:
Welcome to the First Church of the newly created Regisville! Within these hallowed walls, everything and anything related to the great Dr. Regis Blackgaard shall be discussed. Come, read, discover what wonderful things this man has done for your beloved town!

I do understand it is the name of the town, however the above statement is unacceptable.

It's almost as if Regis is trying to elevate his position above God who should be discussed about in a church.

Now, this might be a little overreacting to a story arc - however, if I am supposed to "play-along", I might as well be serious about it.

Furthermore, I've never understood why we need a virtual "church" but this is a virtual "town" so I won't argue about that.

As much as I agree with you, Samwise, I highly doubt that Dr. B will feel any conviction over what he's done here... :-

If anyone stated it.

So I guess...I agree...with...myself.

I agree. I wish they would stop using "Church" for this forum. It's disgusting, and even Regis could have the decency not do call it that... (or not.) ](*,)

Well, er, actually back in the time that was written they weren't called "Churches", and the word Church pretty much means a place where many get together to follow any sort of belief (Like the Church of Scientology), so really, it's not blasphemous.

If you guys notice, Focus on the Family did an episode called Shining Armor parts 1 & 2. Where the bad guy (a rival radio station broadcasting a strange religion.) created a "church" that wasn't exactly christian, we didn't create a big political debacle over that, so why do it when someone obviously evil, Regis Blackgaard, is also doing it.
