This spore exhibits properties quite unlike any other element known to man. Its use is uncertain and it's origin unclear. Created by Professor Bovril, this product is considered highly unstable and testing has not fully been completed.

Hmm... use is uncertain? That's helpful!
Well, it does say it's a spore...
So it could be:
Wikipedia page on 'spore' wrote:In biology, a spore is a reproductive structure that is adapted for dispersion and surviving for extended periods of time in unfavorable conditions. Spores form part of the life cycles of many plants, algae, fungi and some protozoans... The term spore may also refer to the dormant stage of some bacteria or archaea, however these are more correctly known as endospores...

But more likely:
Wikipedia page on 'endospore' wrote:An endospore is a dormant, tough, non-reproductive structure produced by a small number of bacteria from the Firmicute family. The primary function of most endospores is to ensure the survival of a bacterium through periods of environmental stress. They are therefore resistant to ultraviolet and gamma radiation, desiccation, lysozyme, temperature, starvation, and chemical disinfectants. Endospores are commonly found in soil and water, where they may survive for long periods of time.

glossman:

The professor informs me we the tests have gone well, it's everything we could have hoped for! Unfortunately, the townspeople have nearly figured the passwords out and will be here soon, so make sure you destroy everything. Leave no trace behind.

Oh -- and by the way, very clever handling of the DNA sir. No one will ever find it.
I don’t know what I’m doing!
