Football Pool IV
It's back!
Football Pool IV
HEAR YE, HEAR YE!!
Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls, children of all ages!!! Once again, I am back from the dead and the ToO's annual football pool is underway! It's hard to believe that this is already our fourth straight year!
Now,I know that most of the "regulars" on here already know the rules, but I've posted them below for any newcomers that hopefully join...
And just so everyone knows, the first Regular Season game is on Sep. 5, so get your pick in and let's have another awesome football pool season!
Q: What do I do in a football pool?
A: You give ToO dollars to win more ToO dollars.
Q: How much is the entry fee?
A: A mere $5!
Q: Who holds the money?
A: Me, I hold all of the prize money and then give it to the winner when he/she wins. (Or I get to keep it if I win !)
Q: Okay, so how do I play?
A: You look at the games for the upcoming week and say who you think is going to win. The person who gets the most games right wins all of the entry money. The best part of all of this is that you really don't even need to know anything about football; you just go to http://www.nfl.com or http://www.foxsports.com/nfl, look at the week's games, and guess who you think is going to win.
Q: What if two people tie?
A: Okay, if two people tie with Sunday night football then Monday night will be the tie breaker.
Q: There's only one game on Monday night, what if they both get it right again?
A: Monday night football isn't the same as Sunday night. The two people that are tied are going to have to guess the total combined score of the two teams, but without going over, (your total combined scores will need to be pm'd to me). Say one person guesses that the combined score will be 30, the other person guesses 20, and the real score is 25. Person 2 would automatically win because person 1 went over the real score. (Don't forget, after Sunday's games, to check to see whether or not you've tied so you can pm your Monday Night Football Total Combined Score (MNF TCS) to me right away. Your score needs to be in before kickoff of Monday's game.) If I am one of the tying contestants, our MNF TCS's will both be sent to another contestant.
Q: What if they both end up guessing the same number?
A: Well, it's first come, first serve. The other person will have to guess another number.
So, there you have it... If you have any more questions, just let me know.

NICE! I'm so ready for some football! (Also, whoever picks Cowboys over Giants...lol)
I’m in of course, but didn’t we agree last year to just have the tiebreaker whoever is closest, without the ‘going over’ part?

I'm ready. 11 days 20 odd hours to Sunday kickoff.

Does anyone want to do a cumulative pool this season? It’s early enough to set it up properly this time.
Like I said before, it’s like a supplement to this weekly pool. Anyone that wants to get in pays a one time fee now and the person that has picked the most total wins at the end of the season wins the pot.
This way every week counts for something. If you’re just doing the weekly pool you either win or you lose, and if you lose there’s no compensation at all. This is very frustrating if you lose by only one or two games, or lose on the tie breaker. You got so close, but you don’t get anything to show for it.
If you’re in the cumulative pool, those close losses aren’t in vain. They will be added up at the end of the season for the total win contest.
If anyone is interested in doing this along with the weekly pool, let me know now. You can’t enter after the season starts. The entry fee would be $10. Just acknowledge that once you agree to do it you can’t back out. The deadline to enter is season kickoff day, September 5th.

bookworm, I think that idea is cool and I'll definitely enter as long as we don't have to submit our picks in your thread, too. Would you just monitor our picks in this topic each week to get your standings?

This is not true. If someone gets back more ToO dollars, somebody loses money.Ryder wrote:Q: What do I do in a football pool?

I have been robbed of my rightful secret moderator powers! Vote here to help me get them back!
Yes, of course. No need to have a new thread since the picks are the same. That’s why I posted the invitation in here.American Eagle wrote:Would you just monitor our picks in this topic each week to get your standings?
Anyone who wants to do it, post your intention to participate and send me your fee by kickoff.

Okay, I'll be part of that. TBH, though, I care more about winning week-to-week.

Well, ideally you do both. This provides extra motivation to make your picks carefully.American Eagle wrote:I care more about winning week-to-week.

When does the money need to be sent in?
Is it possible to only do it some weeks, and not others?
Is it possible to only do it some weeks, and not others?
My blog: http://www.jessericebooks.blogspot.com Where I talk about stuff and the book(s) I've published.
For the weekly pool:
The money is sent in each week when you post your picks.
You can do as many or as few weeks as you want since they are independent.
For the cumulative pool:
Your money needs to be in to me by season kickoff.
You can do as many or as few weeks as you want, but obviously the fewer weeks you do the less chance you’ll win.

Cool, I'll do the cumulative pool as well.
A little bummed that there aren't any games I'm super excited about until Sunday and Monday night... but I suppose I'll get by Sunday afternoon somehow.

Certainly. You would still post your weekly picks in this thread, but specify that they are only for the cumulative contest. Or just not pay Ryder I suppose.aussie aio fan wrote:Is it possible to just participate in the cumulative pool?
