Good point. \:D/ It must be a morale thing. You feel better if you get 20 points instead of 2, even if relatively it is the same. :-k

Well, my morale isn't being boosted, my inteligence is just being insulted. :noway:

It must be for the uneducated population. ;)

 I think the real reason is our natural aversion to numbers other than 5 and 0 in the ones column. ;)

Oh, go away you math geek! :x

Well, at camp the points are usually multiples of 1,000,000. :-

YAY!

Ok question: What if I have already started a book? Can I count the pages I read during the contest but ignore the ones I read before? Example: I am 30 pages into a book and it has 200 pages. That would give me 170 pages, correct?

Also, I read the passages books 2-6 but dont have them with me. Could someone give me the page number total for that? 2 and 3 were in the old form and 4-6 were in the new format - not sure if that matters for page count at all. Thanks guys!

EDIT For Bible reading: is it page or chapter that counts? Cause some Bibles have really small font and others like my study Bible take like 3x as much space for a book or a chapter because of all the study notes and stuff....It seems to me that going by chapter would be more fair with the Bible cause every one has pretty much the same content...

I was wondering about Bible reading, also. The length of every chapter varies, but maybe the best way to measure it would be count each chapter as one "page"?

Yes.

For the old set:
Book 2: 167 pages
Book 3: 152 pages

For the new set (according to CBD):
Book 4: 224 pages
Book 5: 208 pages
Book 6: 208 pages

1 chapter = 1 page? That works... Quick! Everyone turn to Psalm 117! \:D/

EDIT: The FAQ has been updated to reflect the 1 chapter = 1 page rule. :)

Poor Psalm 119...maybe it should count as 5 as it's divided up that way. ;) Then again it makes 117 even out - lol

Also - will the Book of the Bible count as a separate book or will it go under the Bible?

Each book of the Bible should count as its own separate book. I think it'd be pretty hard to write an all-encompassing review of the entire Bible.

Haha, yes. If you're talking about how to log books of the Bible, though, that's up to you... however, including which book of the Bible you read from seems like the most logical plan.

Update! Instead of PMing me when you write a book review, simply include the words "book review" in the subject description of your new, book-review-containing thread. Unless you're writing a book review of a Passages book or the Official Guide; in that case, notify us here.

I don't think I really have time to read other than kids books at bedtime. However, my husband reads every night. Can I take credit for his pages if he takes credit for my housework? \:D/

Okay, I didn't think that this was asked already, but if it was, sorry:

How are we going to know who has the most pages/points? Will we periodically post our progress?

:hilarious: Perhaps if you take a book with you everywhere and read a given number of pages per hour? Idk, how that'd work, as I do not own my own house, but then like at the top of the hour you could (when possible) stop to read 10-20 pages or so. :anxious:

Or you could just sit there and read and if anyone comes around and bugs you SMACK EM WITH A DICTIONARY or better yet A LATIN DICTIONARY!!!

How do you want us to record how many pages we've read? Just put them on a computer document?

Is there a limit to how many books you can read a day?

Lizzie and I have created a Google Spreadsheet we can both edit to keep track of each participant's progress. Sure, we'd be willing to periodically post progress reports. :)

Termite wrote:How do you want us to record how many pages we've read? Just put them on a computer document?

We would need just a page count at the end. But for weekly drawings, do let us know what you are reading. :)

Termite wrote:Is there a limit to how many books you can read a day?

Of course not! This contest is trying to encourage reading. :D
