A Summer Of Narnia!

Postby EK » Fri Jun 12, 2009 1:35 pm

Here's an idea! We should all read through the Narnia series this summer at the same time, it's a great series to read through, and reading together will give us a chance to discuss each book while it's fresh on our minds! \:D/

Anyone up for doing this?

I'm thinking chronological since we are going to be reading the whole series.

Hey, that was my idea! :x

Actually, I did have a similar idea recently (only mine was a "Week of Narnia", reading one book each day, but I discarded the idea since most people, including myself, would have trouble with that). I think your idea is better, though! \:D/

Lewis himself admitted they were published only as he came up with the ideas...not in any specific timeline of the series. :noway: So it would only make sense to read them in the timeline of the series...especially if we have any first time readers here.

The fascination one feels while reading The Magician's Nephew and discovering the back story to Narnia loses all its grip and magnificence when the reader is not already familiar with Narnia to begin with. It steals discovery doubly because then when you come second to The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, you already know what Narnia is, and there isn't nearly so much to discover or wonder about. Because of that, I think that first time readers should always read The Chronicles in the published order. Those going back for their second or third bout ought to read in whatever way they please, as then it isn't so much about discovering as exploring, revisiting, and remembering, and that can be done no matter where you start. :)

I am through and through agreed with published order sort.

When I was younger, I tried reading The Magicians Nephew, and found it terribly hard to get into. I ended up giving up, and then going back to read it once i had read The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. At that point it was much more enjoyable.

Especially if we have first time readers, or younger readers, we should most definitely read in the published order.

Amen.

I'll see what I can do. My Narnia book is falling apart :(

Does anyone have any links to Narnia sites that might have the copies of the books? I've heard of sites that do it legally :-k

I've never read the books before (other than LWW), so I'm definitely excited to have a summer of Narnia! \:D/ And yeah, I'm up for starting this weekend.

Yay for published order!
I love the \:D/ smiley

Narnia isn't in the public domain, therefore isn't offered legally on the internet for free.
http://www.speedofcreativity.org/2005/1 ... of-narnia/

Also the book is available on Amazon for only $15, it has all the books in one edition.
http://www.amazon.com/Chronicles-Narnia ... 174&sr=8-2

And your local public library should have them as well. :)

I guess I'll check out the library. Good tips Tyler

I had the all edition one with the White Witch on the cover, its pretty old I had it since the first movie came out. I usually read it every few weeks to be reminded of my love for Narnia.
