All Saints' Day is tomorrow... Does anyone celebrate it?

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

All Saints' Day is tomorrow... Does anyone celebrate it?

Post by ~JCGJ~ »

Does anyone celebrate All Saints' day anymore?
I mean, everyone seems to celebrate Halloween (ie. All Hallows' Eve), which wouldn't even exist without All Saints' Day...
We started a tradition quite a few years ago, in which each member of the family researches the life of different Saints (whether they be traditional, Catholic, or whatever else) on Halloween. Then, on the evening of All Saint's Day, we have a large dinner (similar to Christmas, Easter, or Thanksgiving) while each person talks about their chosen Saint, why they were deemed a Saint, etc.
We also generally went to our church's annual Halloween Festival, ate candy, etc. on Halloween, but I always enjoyed our additional celebration, celebrating the reason why we have Halloween in the first place.
Unfortunately, we haven't done this for the past few years, simply because people have moved out, lives have gotten busy, etc. but I still wish we would do it, because it gave a bit more meaning to all the "celebrating" we do on Halloween (a day that was originally dedicated to driving out evil, instead of inviting it in like so many people do today).

Do any of you have any family traditions for celebrating All Saints' Day?

I do. On Halloween, my church has a festival where all the kids dress up as saints and they go around and do different types of booths for candy. On All Saint's day we go to mass because it is a holy day of obligation other than that not much.

My family doesn't have any traditions around the day, but I love the idea of researching different Saints and sharing with your family! That totally sounds like something my mom would have done if she had thought of it. ;)
