Weird Food Combinations

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

What are some weird foods and combinations that you like and people don't understand?

Macaroni and tomatoes

I don't like tomatoes so the first thing is out for me... but I think Mac & Cheese with BBQ sauce at least *sounds* good as long as the BBQ sauce is warm... cold BBQ sauce poured on top would ruin the macaroni in my mind.

When we were kids my brother and I would sometimes make lunch for each other in the summer, with the rule that it had to be composed of things we technically liked, but could be in any combination... my brother made me a grilled peanut butter and mozzarella cheese sandwich that was actually really good! \:D/ I think it would have to be warm though or not as good. He didn't like the chocolate and hot dog sandwich I made him, though. :(

My favorite weird food combination is the peanut butter and pickle sandwich. It's sounds horrible but is weirdly awesome. Like me.

Ice cream with dill pickles! \:D/ I just tried that this week out of curiosity, and it's actually quite delicious! O:) Top, I can see the PB and pickle being good...with the slight sweetness of the PB and the sour/salty of the pickle.

I haven't been able to talk many people into trying it... but the few that do are pleased with the result.

I would try the ice cream. I always want to try the bacon ice cream but never have gotten around to it. The fact that it's meat is weird but chewy/crispy/salty is generally good in ice cream.

There are some interesting taste buds represented in this thread. ;)

One combination that I like is crackers with honey and a slice of cheese on top. It sounds a bit odd, but it tastes really good! It's the sweet and salty combination that makes it work.

Ice cream and avocado are both fatty foods, so I could see them going very well together.

But avocado doesn't have that much flavor (to me).. so I could see ice cream easily overpowering it. And by then, WHAT'S THE POINT.

Home-canned pears and cottage cheese is even better! But pickles, snubs? :bolt:

Okay, now that Laura has verified the peanut butter and pickle sandwich is edible, I feel like I need to be brave and try it too. Unless this is an early April Fool's joke.... :shame:

I can confirm that peanut butter and pickles (dill) sandwich is edible and not bad, though strange.

Indeed. We eat peanut butter and pickles over toast open faced, instead of a sandwich.
