March Madness

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

It's almost that time again! Our group is renewed, go join it so you're ready to go when the brackets unlock!

Even if you don't really follow the games go ahead and do a bracket anyway! Even if you don't follow at all, just advance random teams! The more participants the funner, it doesn't matter if you actually know what you're doing! I don't! \:D/

Did you realize this is the ToO's longest running unofficial annual event? We've done a bracket competition for all but the very first year of this community's existence! (2005 doesn't count because the site wasn't opened until April.)

This is our tenth straight year! Be a part of this great tradition!

How do you make one? Do I have to click "Make a Bracket" and create a whole new account?

There's just one day left to enter! Please join if you haven't yet!

This doesn't take any commitment, it's a one time thing. You just join the group, fill your bracket, and that's all there is to it! No further involvement is required, or even possible. The brackets lock when the tournament begins, all that's left to do is sit back and watch how it plays out.

If you don't care or don't know anything about the sport that's fine! Just do one to be nice to us who would like a big group this year! It's nothing to you, just click through random teams, it takes less than three minutes, then you can forget all about it. There's no reason not to do one!

The group locks some time today but you can still join at the moment; if you've been waiting until the last minute come get in on this! We have an awesome group this year, most players in a long time!

Let the Madness begin!

Good luck to everyone, and remember to come and chat games you watch!

21 players is more than the number of people who voted in the last election, by one.

Funny you say that, I felt like I was campaigning an election the way I recruited signups constantly over the past week here and in the chatroom.

Disappointed by the Baylor upset yesterday, that'll haunt me for the next two rounds.

I'd like to hear what picking strategies people used. Are you somewhat knowledgeable about who should do well and went by that? And people who don't know anything about this, what did you do? Just click randomly? Or did you have a pseudostrategy like which name sounded better, or looking up school colors?

For myself, I generally go by team rank since I know nothing about college basketball so that's the only indicator I have of how good they are, but I will occasionally override if I have a personal feeling about a certain matchup. For example this year I advanced Wisconsin a few rounds further than their ranking might indicate because I felt their making the final last year would have them more prepared than some of their opponents who may be ranked higher but are inexperienced in the tournament.
