Fun start to the new season

After being the case the last two years, the Triple Crown will not be on the line at the Belmont this year as Nyquist's rival finally got the better of him.

Incredible photo finish at the Belmont! And even if Nyquist had taken the Preakness the Triple Crown still wouldn't have been up this year because he ended up not running. So it's been a much lower key season than last year, but still fun. Three different winners in the three jewels.

I'm a little disappointed the Triple Crown wasn't in play this year, and the lack of the 37-year gap kinda takes the excitement of it out of me. Ah, well. I guess it can't happen every year.

We got a rematch after all! After Nyquist was scratched from the Belmont they met in the Haskell which Exaggerator wasn't originally going to run. A very exciting race that Exaggerator took with a last turn pass. There was an interesting delay on the official call with a foul claim filed, but it was denied.

Baffert goes 1 and 2 in the Travers with Arrogate and American Freedom and sets a track record for good measure!

Ready to wrap the year up next weekend at the Breeder's Cup with the return of California Chrome. Remember him? Came up short in a Triple Crown bid in 2014. Should be exciting, a well known horse like that back in a prominent race.

With the Breeder's Cup the last big event left in the season, I made a timely discovery that I think is very cool.
I found this on a shelf of free stuff at a library I visited:
It's a promotional booklet for the very first Breeder's Cup in 1984! I assume it was distributed to trainers because it explains the creation of this new series, how the process and winnings will work, and in the back actually has a form for submitting nominations of horses to be in the first running.
