How to spell grey/gray?

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Do you prefer to spell it grey or gray. I personally spell it grey, though gray is more phonetic.

I spell it gray. Never thought of using grey.

I go back and forth on this one. When it comes to the optional "u" in words (colour, favourite etc.) I consistently go for the British/Canadian way, which is to include the "u." For gray and grey, I'm inconsistent. Grey is the more traditional British way, while gray is more common in the US. For whatever reason, this variation doesn't really matter to me. The English language is an odd and interesting thing, that's for sure!

She's referring to words like colour and favourite, which is the British/Canadian spelling, and how grey is the English spelling and gray is the American spelling.

I go with grey, personally.
