How do you spell..

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

Donut/Doughnut?

Disc/Disk?

Theater/Theatre?

Which way do you spell it?

This is the first time I realized that there were to ways to spell disk. However, I personally would use disk, because 'k' is more common as a final letter than 'c'.

I prefer doughnut because doughnuts made of dough. Also, donuts looks like it could be pronounced "do nut". I am not sure if I actually spell it "doughnut" regularly though.

I agree with you, Moontide. It makes the most sense. So I say Doughnut

I think it should be spelled theatre, but I don't have any justification for it.

It is actually nation-specific, but it is now a classist thing.

I've never seen anyone spell it doughnut, and would never spell it that way myself, and, even though it may make more sense, I don't think anyone would confuse donut for do nut...

I merged the three "How to spell" threads into one so they are not so redundant, plus, all word spelling variations can be discussed here. \:D/

I would agree that it would likely only a problem for people learning to read.
