satellite crashing into Earth tonight

If there's something on your mind that just doesn't seem to fall into any of the other categories, well, it quite likely belongs inside Joe Finneman's marketplace. Think of it as a general store for general discussions!

satellite crashing into Earth tonight

Post by bookworm »

Not an April Fool's; this has been in the news for months.

A Chinese satellite the size of a school bus has been falling for some time and will finally enter the atmosphere by tomorrow morning. Latest estimate at the time of this post is tonight at 8:10 p.m. EDT (0010 April 2 GMT) give or take 2.5 hours. The location is not yet known. It's said to be "unlikely" there will be any damage as it should "mostly" burn up before reaching the ground, but there may be some debris.

More information and latest updates here.

I would follow a tracker this afternoon and if you happen to be in the area where it's going to end up have a camera on hand, you could see some fireballs.

I heard about this on the radio the other day. It makes for a fun headline, but not much of a story beyond that....unless something incredibly unlikely happens and there actually is some kind of real damage. It is kind of interesting, though!
