What should we do about it?

The Stock Market
Alright, so a lot of you older members will remember this feature of the board. Basically what it is, is a virtual stock market, that individuals can buy shares on, and sell them. It's a whole lot of fun, and is quite a lot like a casino game. You can win a lot, win a little, lose a lot, or lose a little. I enjoyed it a lot, and spent some money, and made some money both with it. The problem with it, is that the potential to get fairly rich is there. Which will cause the economy to fluctuate, which isn't necessarily too bad, but isn't very good either. So now that we have the base for things, let me explain what this vote is for. This is not to decide whether to put the stock market in. This is an analysis for how many people would like to have it, and how many people wouldn't. A survey, which will effect my, and the other administrators decisions. This lets you have a say in what happens. Because if the percent was around 50% for %51 not for, then it would be a little unfair. This just gives a majority idea of what you guys want .
No, and I will explain why.
I the whole reason the economy was reset was because of the incredible unevenness of money that was distributed amongst the board.
The reason some members became so rich was because of the stock market. To bring it back will only recreate the previous scenario resulting in much dissatisfaction among us ToOers.

Agreed, I voted no as well. The entire reason Sekha reset the board was to control and out of control economy. To re-activate the stock market, would be moving 'backwards'. It would promote a less stable economy and provide means for members to (at times) illegitimately received huge amounts of money.
But, if a stable economy is not high on the list for the majority of members, and they just want something else added to the board, something that is possibly fun....then, I'm okay with the stock market. I just don't think it's economically smart.

I am going to vote no. Even though I wasn't here for the stock market or the money or whatever, I believe that money is not the main focus of this board. The main focus of this board is the relationships. I think that we might last for a while, simply because we are a Christian board, and we believe in being nice to other people.
Please ignore my little monolouge. My point is that money is not the main focus of the board, therefore, the stock market or contest or anything shouldn't be our main thing we focus on. Wow, that sounds weird. It's hard to get my point across. Anyway, no, no more features to do with money.

I voted yes, because it was a lot of fun and was an opportunity to make more money. Really, the only people who would get "rich" are the ones who actively keep track of the market and know which ones to invest in. So basically, those who put time and effort into it make money--which is the basic premise of this board. Those who put time and effort into posting make more money than those who don't. Those who put time and effort into devising contests make more money than those who don't. I'm not worried about some people having more money than others. If everyone had the same amount, that would be boring socialism.

There have been some good points made for both sides, although I am currently leaning toward the bring-it-back side. While money certainly should not be the central focus of this board, it is undeniably one of the selling points of the ToO. Perhaps what it makes it so unique is because of the money.
I do agree, however, there is cause for concern with regards to the economy if the stock market is brought back. It certainly was one of the key contributors to the rising inflation. But it is worth noting that even without the stock market, the town currently has well over $600,000 in the bank. All of which was amassed in a span of eight months. Of course there's going to be inflation over time!
In the end, a stable economy is not the end all be all for this board. If friendships and community are truly at the heart of this board, then it won't matter whether the average person has five thousand or five million in his or her bank account. Admittedly, it'd be nice to have a less wacky economy, but I'd honestly be fine with whichever direction current leadership decided to take us.

I wouldn't care. Though I would say no, cause I hate gambling, and it's wrong (don't get me started), it all depends. I wouldn't use it cause I'm not that type of person. We are all different. But, the economy... who knows. I have a lot of money compared to other people though. I think are economy is still out of balance. Or maybe it never was in the beginning...
The Stock Market was before my time (or if it wasn't, I was too new to appreciate it), and I think it'd be fun to experience it. I'm not too concerned about the economy either, so I said "yes."

I voted NO due to the inflation issue but I will not go on a murder spree if it is brought back!

I vote yes. While the stock market was before my time, it sounds like a good idea. I mean, mostly everybody doesn't really care about their money unless they are trying to buy something, run for election, or starting a faction. Also, a stock market can lead to a story arc, something this town has been lacking. From what I hear about the stock market, people had fun doing it, and that's why I think it would be a great readdition to the town. I don't think it would stop the convos any. That's my opinion.

I voted no. Because while I agree with some of what Trent and Dr. Watson said, I do know that it was mistreated somewhat while it was around, and I'd rather not have any tiffs concerning the Stock Market. True that relationships are more important than money, but for some people who don't really think that or who are too focused on money, they could start an argument and get the whole board involved in a disagreement. Although, I'm not adamantly against the idea, either. It's just a thought.

*blinks at Shad* Wow.
Anyway...
I said no. I don't really have a stable reason like the rest of you, but I just don't think it's a necessary part of this board. There are so many other great aspects around here, and I don't think that the return of the stock market is something that is important.
But that's just me.
