Catspaw wrote:Everyone,

Effective immediately, the fee for a new faction will now be $10,000, an increase from the former fee of $5,000. This change is to keep the price more in line with the amount of money that people have available.

If you have any questions or comments, you can post them here or private message me if you would prefer. :)

- Catspaw, on behalf of the admin team (but it was my idea, so complaints should be directed to me, not JIA or Christina) ;)
Why 10,000 instead of 5,000?

Well, and someone who's been here longer can correct me if I'm wrong, but as I understand it the purpose of factions was more to be a "gang" or, as stated in The Guide, "to band together for a common purpose." This is probably why, for our board, the name was changed from Usergroups to Factions:
definition of faction wrote:1 : a party or group (as within a government) that is often contentious or self-seeking : clique
2 : party spirit especially when marked by dissension
As it would be odd to align yourself with many parties or groups, there was originally a limit that each member could only be in 5 factions at a time. This rule still is stated, but is not enforced.

Anyway, the intent was not to have every special interest topic under the sun available to be discussed on one site. I think expecting that we could possibly cover all topics or have a separate forum for every topic is a little unreasonable. But pretty much any group of 5+ people that has wanted their own space has gotten it. Upping the price might make people actually consider the relevance and value of having the faction in the first place. And maybe instead of needing to recruit 5 members who each pay $2,000, those interested could try to seek additional supporters so that each person's contribution is less and the group has a better chance of survival. I, for one, think this was a good idea.

And that's the end of my dissertation on the new higher price of factions. ;)

You need money to help start a new faction, but to join one that already is in existence is free. :) You don't need to leave any factions that you're already a part of. They're already paid for.

Darcie pretty much nailed it. The intent wasn't special interest, it was more for gangs for storylines and contest type things. But no one seems to get that these days so whatever. ;)

Or maybe he was attempting to make a more esoteric point, such as that there was no such theoretical golden age where storyarcs ran in the streets and inflation was buried deep within the core of the earth never to return.
"Sonuna" Taranimak ("Sonuna" Sharkquill) has been content lately. She admired own very fine Bed recently. She talked with a parent recently. She talked with a friend recently. She had a good meal recently. She admired a fine tastefully-arranged Desk recently.
She is a citizen of The United States of America. She is a member of The State of Minnesota. She is a member of The Town of Odyssey.
"Sonuna" Taranimak likes Bauxite, Copper, Green jade, the color navy, cloaks, ballistas, cats for their aloofness and hydras for their seven heads. When possible, she prefers to consume Dr Pepper and ramen.
She lives at a relaxed pace. She tends to avoid crowds. She has a fertile imagination. She is completely disorganized. She is very distant and reserved. She tends not to openly express emotions. She needs caffeine to get through the working day.
