A Suggestion for Name Changes
A Suggestion for Name Changes
May I suggest that we make an ordainance declaring that those members who have decided to change his or her name are required to put a "Was previously _______" note in the signature, for at least a couple of weeks (until we all get used to the new name)?
Because, I, personally, do not enjoy having to mill my way through a person's previous posts, searching for mentions of their name or posts that I recognize, or bang my head against a hard surface in an attempt to remember which member(s) had X number of posts (or any number of other, rediculously tedious methods) in order to (hopefully) determine who the ambiguous character turns out to be.
It is simply a suggestion; do with it what you will.
*END OF RANT*
(because no post by ~JCGJ~ would be complete without Mr. Green. Please to not mistake his presence as evidence that I am not completely serious)

I don’t know if that’s something that could be enforced as a requirement, but I think most people do it anyway as a courtesy.
People that don't attach their signatures by default may have problems.

When I was a kid we just had to muddle through and figure out who the strange person was.
I was seriously afraid you were going to change your name, Mr. Green. :/ (Come to think of it, what does your name stand for? )

I like this idea. But then, I've only changed my name once..bookworm wrote:I don’t know if that’s something that could be enforced as a requirement, but I think most people do it anyway as a courtesy.
SnC Forever. Miss you still.
J.C.G.J. stands for Jonathan Christian Gabriel Janzen, which just happens to be my full name. The tildes are just there because I likes them. ~ ~The Kings Daughter wrote: (Come to think of it, what does your name stand for? )

Sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.
To LGBT ToOers: The world is so much wider than your family and church. There are accepting people out there.
People are not able to change their names on their own, but you can always PM an admin (such as myself) and ask for your name to be changed. It really only takes a few seconds to do it, so if you want to change your name, send me a PM!Mr. Whit's End wrote:We can change our names? What is this non-SS-sanctioned black magic?

I agree with the bookworm; it would give us more things that we could actually do with the money.bookworm wrote:It used to cost money. It still should.

One thing we never had with the phpBB3 upgrade was a shop that was as well written as the original. There was a name change function in this one, but it was super buggy and not worth having available. But the upgrade had to happen, regardless. Hopefully we can upgrade our code again and perhaps something like that can return!

Well, we could just have Catspaw (or whoever is tasked with the Name Changing duties) accept whatever the decided upon amount is, before she'll change anyone's name.

I don't see a problem with charging monies in order to get a name change.

I agree. I think some kind of fee would be nice is in order.bookworm wrote:And it would prevent people from just doing it on a whim.

I think this has come up briefly in the past. I'm not against having a fee that people have to pay, but there aren't a ton of requests, so using the fee as a way to stop a flood of silly name change demands isn't necessary. It would be a way for people to use their funds, but to make it reasonable and accessible for newer members, I wouldn't want to make it too high, and a small fee won't really change the amount of money that older members have anyway. At this point I will not be adding a fee, but if Shadowpaw loves the idea and wants to make that change, that's fine, or else during our next election season in a few months, perhaps a team will want to take a stance one way or another.
Oh Catspaw, you're so logical!
My first reaction was, "We don't charge anymore??" but it does make sense.
As for the suggestion that started the thread, I believe it is brilliance, (that is, for people to just do it, not for enforcement).
Edit: Also, I forgot I made money with posts, huzzah! One more dollar.

I've had ^AIOluver^ in my sig since I was AIOluver... I don't have really anything against it, but during events when people want to change their name to match the theme...
^AIOluver^
Who am I? I'd rather not answer that question, the real question is, "Who are you?". Right now I am trying to think of something witty to put here.. I might not find anything, but that's fine. This block of text should be fine for a signature. Wait, are you still reading this? Why are you reading this? Stop. Seriously. This sentence is true.
The sentence above is false.
I dare you not to read this.Maybe if I talk like this.
Wait, you still see me? *sighs* I give up.
