The Extraordinary Education of Youtube Links

Post by Woody »

I've noticed a lot of errors in using the tag recently, and a lot of people reverting to simply posting the links. So I've decided to post a short tutorial on how to use the tag properly. I will start by pointing out the most commonly made error: the 'https' error*.

As you can see, this video does not show. How can we fix that? Simple. All that needs to be done is to remove the 's' in 'https', like so:

Code: Select all

Which produces:
The second error I have noticed(and have made several times myself) is the & error. This occurs when a particular link contains an &feature or &list, which fouls things up, like this:

Notice that in both of these, the 'https' error has not been made, yet still they do not show up. All that needs to be done is to remove everything after the &, like so:

Code: Select all

Both simplify down to the same thing, and produce this:
And that just about wraps it up**! \:D/ Congratulations, you have graduated from Youtube Link Academy with flying colors. You may now reward yourself with watching this wonderfully funny video:

*Credit goes to bookworm, for explaining this in linked post
**These may not be the only things that cause errors, they are just the most common ones that I see. If I discover any more, I will update this post accordingly.

Good idea Woody. As you note I have an explanation I post as a response to actively broken links, but it’s good to have an easy place for people to check for self troubleshooting.

Why did you change the sample video though? :x

I've not seen the video, so if it's obvious, I don't know :p

I do it in compliance with Top’s mandate to post it more. Ever since he requested it I have posted it any chance I have. Since it’s not acceptable to simply spam a video all over the place, the primary place that has allowed it is when a sample video is needed, shuch as the YouTube tag explanations, so I always use it as my sample.
