Pros and Cons of the ToO Chat

Hello, people of the Town of Odyssey! I am here to tell you all about the ToO Chat. It has been noted that many ToOers do not regularly visit the chat. In fact, most of the users are from the Soda Shop. Mainly, because the Soda Shop had a chat once, but due to technical difficulties they use the ToO Chat. I shall give you all two lists. One will be the pros of the chat and the other will be the cons. I would prefer to leave the cons out and leave the pros as reasons, but if you decided to get on the chat you may become aware of some of the cons and feel deceived of the chat's awesomeness. Anyways here they are:

The Pros:
1. The chat is a great place to get to know other users
2. The chat has different IRC's to choose from. Such as, Mibbit or Kiwi.
3. Kiwi has some of the smileys from the ToO! (I'm not sure they have all though) :wacky:
4. Old ToO Members sometimes reside there such as Skid, DanP740, snubs, and bookworm
5. You can chat with Soda Shoppers there instead of having to make an account on the Soda Shop (You can if you want to tho :))
6. There are instant PMs on the chat. You can chat with one person instead of speaking on the main chat.
7. There is "/me" allowing for actions that appear as: "* Penguin hugs Skid" "* Skid dies"
8. There is NickServ. This allows you to register your nick so no one can impersonate you. You can change your nick and group it with your original nick. (I've done this with "Aftershocker" and "Penguin")
9. Your friendly neighborhood bot, Mabel, is there! She is always will to give you a hug, a high-five, or even battle with you. You just have to make the first move. ;)
10. There is #mafia and #debate. In #mafia there is a Wolfbot that Rumple has setup to allow for fast paced mafia games. There are several versions including MLP, Doctor Who, Toy Story, and more! #debate is for intense debates usually with War Doctor (aka John Chrystom) ;)
11. You can also create your own channel!
12. The chat is moderated by several operators (ops) so if someone is spamming or breaking any other rule, the ops can warn/kick/ban the user.
13. The chat can be accessed on your phone! For iPhone users I'm not sure if there is an app for the chat, but for Android users there is an app called AndChat that is free and easy to use. You'll have to setup some server settings, but Dan can help you with that.
14. There is a stats page at chat.thetoo.com/stats. This encourages people to speak more to make it onto the page.
The Cons:
1. The chat isn't always active and usually during the day people are idle. (I do this sometimes =[, this is also a reason for others to come on the chat ;))
2. There are rules. Mainly, no spamming, no ALL CAPS (constantly), no flooding (Mabel will kick you), no trolling, no unwanted PMing, and the like. (The ops can confirm/add these) (These are actually cons but for the sake of joking they are in cons ;))
3. Wolfbot is not in #mafia right now and Rumple is usually idle :/
4. The ops don't usually speak. They just lurk. o_o
5. The stats page sometimes can cause people to spam simply to get on the stats page.
Those are all the ones I can think of so far. So if you haven't gone on the chat or haven't been on in a while please consider checking it out to see if you like it! :) And remember, as my status says #AllToOersShouldGoOnTheChat

@bookworm: But you haven't been residing on the Chat as long as we have. :noway:

YOU SPEAK AS THOUGH I NEVER POST ON THE BOARD ANYMORE. :boohoo:

....

Thanks for making YET ANOTHER chat advertising topic. \:D/ (There have been several in the past...that usually failed to do much good. =|)

Yes, all ToO'ers should pop in AT LEAST every now and than. *nods* It's been active for over a year and is fun to hangout on now. It's not like the old days anymore where it was usually just me and DanP740 staring at each other through our computer screens watching tumbleweeds roll by. =p THERE ARE ACTUALLY PEOPLE THAT COME ON, REGULARLY. =o

Join us! We must outnumber the SSers in our own chatroom!

Please. :dark:

This is not a threat and is in no way implicating the consequences of not joining the chatroom. Any herds of feral monkeys let loose in your home upon refusal are purely coincidental and not related to us in any way.

You didn't say anything was according to time on Chat though, only that one could find older ToOers which is now true of me as I frequent there, regardless of how long it has been the case. I'm there now, that's what matters.

You can actually register your channel to be invite only so people can't just randomly join. ;)

I wish there were video and/or voice chat options... I know that the younger users might not be let in, but for the rest of us and those young ones with the swagger of the dagger (don't ask for I know not) I think it would be fun and more active if we could hear or even see each other! I don't know about video, but it is easy to set up a free audio chat system! :P Just a thought though, feel free to tell me that I am just a creeper that is about to blow there nice carrot garden up and probably not even drop any gunpowder for the trouble...

If there are any Firefox uses in the group of people what want the video/voice chat, you can use Firefox Hello. No accounts are needed, and all you need is a modern browser. A Firefox user is needed because only Firefox users can create conversations, but any browser can join. Once the conversation was made, the link could be posted in the text chat room.

(Beware that I haven't tested this, so it might not work.)

Hm, that is one way I guess... One could just as easily start a google hangout though... Integrating one just for us still is an easy path though.
