This first poem is a nonet, which is a nine line poem, beginning with nine syllables and counting down to one.

Softball
(c) Kat 2007

My friends and I play fast pitch softball
We like to throw and catch the ball
Sometimes we hit some home runs
STRIKE TWO! big fat ump calls
Have to pitch one more
Ready to run
Pitched the ball
She swung
OUT!

This second poem I wrote trying to involve imagery and alliteration.

Flip-Flops
(c) Kat 2007

Flip-flops are foam cut outs of laughter
Worn in the winter or in the spring
When I wear them, I feel I have wings

Pink, blue, fuzzy, and soft
I find all my flip-flops because they were lost
Under the bed or in the car
Finding them near or finding them far

My flip-flops are cheap
I bought them at Old Navy
Their really great prices just make me go crazy

Flip-flops are my friends
I wear them all day
But when I wear them
I hope they wont fray

This last poem is called a Senryu, or a haiku (5-7-5 syllable poem) with an attitude.

My Friend
(c) Kat 2007
My friend is so weird!
She dances down the store aisles
Why is she my friend?

Look for the next issue of Odyssey Authors on September 3!

This is a pleasant suprise! Those poems are very good, Kat.

I can't write poetry, not even free verse. :anxious:
