Mafia Round 6: Sign Up

Postby Monty » Mon Mar 12, 2012 9:51 am

Hey, everyone. It's time to sign up for the sixth Mafia game. We'll be following the same basic rules with one major twist: everyone will have a role. Some of these roles have never been seen before, so I'll go over a few I'm planning on using.

The Clumsy Vote Counter
The CVC pms me a name during the night. This person's vote will not count when tallying the results the next day. The CVC can not pick the same person two nights in a row. This effect is nullified if the CVC dies during the night. (This role can be a Mafia or a Townperson)

The Vilgilante
The Vigilante has the power to kill one person during any night.

The Commuter
The Commuter can skip town on any night he/she chooses, thus saving him/her from being killed.

The Psychic
After each person dies, I will ask them to give me 1-3 names who they think are Mafia. I will relay these names to the Psychic each night.

Rigged Elector
The RE has the same power as the CVC, except he will make one person's vote count as two votes. The RE can not pick the same person two nights in a row, and he can also be a Mafia or a Townsperson.

Please sign up or ask questions in this thread.

Photobucket was evil and made third-party display a premium feature. Then they increased the size and obnoxiousness of the placeholder advertisement encouraging me to upgrade. Thus, this text signature.

Oooh, this looks like fun. \:D/

If we don't have a sudden influx of players, I would like to play again. (But don't count me in until you are ready to close the sign-up, because I don't want to take a spot from someone who has not yet played.)

I’ll play because I like being part of these games, but I’m not too excited by how each round had a new twist. What’s wrong with keeping to the basics?

No, sign-ups have just begun if you wish to play, Buzz. Bookworm, as I recall, the only real twist that occurred was during church's game. I don't think it's been a common occurrence, nor should it be. Obviously each GM may do something different like add a new role or use different ones, but that is to be expected.

You have a point. Though I'm not sure that everyone would agree with you, wanting each game to play with the same roles each time. The way it is now, each game people will need to adapt to new roles, which creates even more possibilities for each game.

Right. But the purpose of these games is to develop your logic and analysis, which you do through repetitive and similar experience. If you keep throwing new wrenches in the works, each round becomes a struggle to adapt, instead of improve.

I think those skills (logic and analysis) are still being used a great deal, but in different ways. For instance, in this game, you will know that there are no regular townies. This game, in particular, will force you to learn quickly. In Mafia Round 5, other skills needed to be used. With the new roles that no one had seen before, a sense of caution was prevalent the first two days. In church's game, the twist required townies to communicate openly to succeed, which they did not. These are just a few things I've seen.

I agree with you, bookworm, but I fear that people who only play for fun may become bored if the game is played the same way each round.
