I dont always agree with that bookworm. If it clearly is in Scripture not to do something, then it's not just doing whatever you want.

No, I haven't. I mean, I've heard of the concept, I just haven't ever met anyone who practiced it.
Lee wrote:If it clearly is in Scripture not to do something, then it's not just doing whatever you want.
But it's not clearly in Scirpture. It's, again, open to interpretation. Basically, don't cross-dress. Guys shouldn't go around wearing skirts and halter tops (unless it's a Powderpuff game; at that point all bets are off \:D/), and girls shouldn't be buying stuff from the men's department.

The way I interpret it, God wants us to retain our femininity in how we dress, but that doesn't mean we can never wear pants ever because it's a sin. There's a reason why there are women's jeans, women's dress pants, women's pants in general, women's t-shirts, women's sweatshirts, women's jerseys, et cetera. I think God wants us to take part in the fashion of the day, so long as we don't look trashy while doing so.

^Yeah. I guess I see it as more black and white. Either God says one way is okay, or not. Not so much making rules for one group and not another, or on a different sliding scale of enforcement, or something.

Absolutely. But I was referring to this particular issue. Like you said, it’s not a clear command, so it’s up to personal conviction.

I think its crazy the way the supposedly ''christian'' people have let themselves go in there dress. For instance the collingsworth.they used to be a good christian family.and now they have gone worldly.their singing, and their dress. the girls have gotten immodest and i hate to see it.so we need to be careful. :boohoo:

This is a bit off topic, but may I ask how their dress has become worldly and immodest? I glanced through their 2011 photos on their website and Facebook, and there was not a single provocative photo. Have you recently seen them in person?

Pro-tip/fair warning: posts like this are easily interpreted as absurdly sickening and may result in an opposing mass attack. I almost allowed my zealous passion to eagerly rip apart every word of that statement with a deprived sense of glee, and we certainly wouldn't want that!

....If you think they're immodest, then you must not know the definition of 'worldly'. :P Don't be so critical of others.

The Collingsworth family is a christian family who sings together, the have several CDs and they sing different places around the country. Johnfalconer was saying how the girls in the family have started dressing immodestly, and we were questioning his post becauseinthe photos I've seen at least, they aren't dressing immodestly.
Does that answer your question Tiger? :)

So I looked at their website...and they look like the most modest family ever. :-s

The daughters are wearing skirts to their knees, their shirts cover their collarbones and their sleeves are rather long. The girls don't even appear to be wearing make-up.

And why on Earth would you bump an old topic just to trash such a modest family?

It does, actually. Thanks, Lee! :D

It doesn't really sound to me like these are immodest people. If what OTR is saying is true (which I don't doubt that it is), then you could hardly call them immodest.

*cough* Not to keep this going, but I know exactly what johnfalconer meant. I wouldn't say the Collingsworths are immodest per say, but they did used to be more conservative in dress and their stage presence. But for most of you who aren't really conservative, (no offense) I could see how it wouldn't make sense to you.

Okay, i think that makes more sense then,I only saw some more recent photos of them, so I didn't realize that they used to be more conservative.
