Here's another poem I wrote. I hope you enjoy it. Constructive criticism is always welcomed. Thank you for taking the time to read it.

That Shade of Blue

I can’t describe that shade of blue,
But I would recognize it anywhere.
It is unusual and appealing just like you.
I think of you when I see that shade of blue,
Because of that old T-shirt you loved to wear.
I wonder where you are and if you’re happy.
Are you married to the woman of your dreams?
Do you have children who have your dark hair?
Is your job everything you hoped it would be?
Those questions and others come to mind,
But there is one question I ponder the most.
Do you ever think about me and remember us?

I can’t describe that shade of blue,
And I can’t describe what happened to us.
The way we ended was so abrupt and sudden.
For one moment, we were alive and well,
And the next moment, we were dead.
I don’t know exactly what caused the death,
However I wish I could have stopped it.
We had something priceless and extraordinary.
But we just let it slip right through our hands.
Even as I move on and continue with my life,
I will always regret what happened to us.
If I could change what happened, I would.

I can’t describe that shade of blue,
And I don’t know how I ever got over you.
It was a long, dark, and painful process,
But I was finally ready to move on with my life.
I met a boy who reminded me so much of you,
Yet he was also very, very different from you.
He never made my heart beat as fast as you did.
He could never match the passion you had.
I am happy with him; he is a very good man,
But when I think of you and that shade of blue,
I find myself regretting what happened to us
And longing for what could have been.

Not to be the typo police, but... ;)

Quote:
He never made my heart beat as fast a you did.

That last "a" should be "as." I thought I'd point it out in case you were sharing it elsewhere.

You communicated a lot of emotion through your poem, and I loved the unique entry point of the poem! I haven't read anything like that before. Is this poem based (or loosely based) on an experience of your own, or more fictional? (I would also accept, "None of your business, Catspaw!") ;)

Thank you, Catspaw for pointing that out. I will fix that typo after I write this post. :) It was based loosely on a friend of mine. I have no romantic feelings towards him at all. He's actually more like an acquaintance than a friend. When I first met him, he was wearing a unique blue T-shirt. A couple weeks ago I saw someone wearing the exact same shade of blue that he had worn. So the phrase, that shade of blue, stuck with me. I wasn't planning for it to be that kind of poem, but I just started writing, and that's what happened.

Neat! If you guys end up married ten years from now, make sure you show him the poem. ;) I think lots of good writing comes when it wasn't quite what you planned, but it's what comes out when you start writing. :D

Haha haha. *Coughs* Well, I highly doubt that will ever happen, but I'll do that if it does happen for some miraculous reason...:anxious:

That was really really well done Sapphire- well written and good flow.

I just started a poem myself- I just met a girl and I came up with the first line just suddenly. Here it is:

How do birds suddenly appear, every time you are near?

;)
