King Lear

Has anyone seen the BBC production, or read the literature piece? Our family saw the movie yesterday, and I must say, it is a rather depressing piece. What do y'all think?

*sniffle* :sniff: I've heard the storyline before. It falls under the category of tragedy, right? :-k

Oh yeah, thanks--I just realized it might be better there.

Yep, it's considered a tragedy, along with Hamlet and Romeo and Juliet. I wish Shakespeare wrote happier plays, but the thing with tragedy is that it really brings human nature right out into light.

I dislike the play--the entire thing is so dismal. Plus, it's gruesome. >_<

Yeah, I agree in the gruesome part... :xx: The only reason I would enjoy this play is that it helped me to see how blessed we are to have a democracy in our country. I was struck with how much instability there was in the play, under the system of anarchy. It was as if the entire country was in the ballance, and at the helm was a King who was mentally insane... :|

I've heard of it. I hate depressing stuff like that...my sisters and I watched Jack Bull because my oldest sister had to watch it for college. It was so sad!
