Book Suggestions

Postby The Doctor » Thu Sep 10, 2015 3:34 pm

Please post any book suggestions you may have for us here. We'll be using these suggestion in polls for choosing a book to read.

Try to keep your suggestions age-appropriate, as we may have younger members joining the club. Also try to pick books that are either classics(usually available free on Kindle or Project Gutenberg) or popular enough to be available at most libraries. :)

I'd suggest (if biographies are appropriate here? or is this a mostly-fiction book club?)
When Character Was King, by Peggy Noonan, a biography of Ronald Reagan;
7 Men and the Secrets of Their Greatness, by Eric Metaxas, biographies of seven great men and what made them great.
Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy, by Eric Metaxas, biography of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

Or maybe some old books like CS Lewis' Space Trilogy or The Swiss Family Robinson.

Umm...the Bonhoeffer book is about 8 inches thick... I don't think anyone would want to read that in a month... O_O

We could read some O. Henry stories. ^_^

*sighs happily*
Actually, it's only about 3 inches thick.

I could read it in about two weeks. And did.

I've been wanting to read The iron heel by Jack London, 1984 by George Orwell, Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, Lord of the Flies by William Golding, The handmaids Tale by Margaret Atwood, Hunger games by Susanne Collins, Frankenstein by Mary Shelly and The lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. The only books I've read from this list are the Hunger games but I tried to pick books for around 15 year olds.

That list of suggestions was exactly what I needed, Ninja, thank you :p Now we have enough for the poll! \:D/ I'll look into all the suggested books, see how available they are, and choose five to put in the first poll, which I'll post later today.
