Twitch Plays Pokémon

I find this incredibly fascinating. A programmer set up an emulated game of Pokémon on the video game streaming site Twitch so people could watch it being played. But instead of playing it himself, he set it up so that viewers input commands into the site chat and an IRC bot conveys them to the game where they are carried out. The viewers are controlling the game. The catch, by design, is that with thousands of commands being entered simultaneously substantial progress is unlikely to occur, yet amazingly not impossible. In fact people managed to complete the original game, Pokémon Red, and the stream is now playing Pokémon Crystal.
