How do they work?

This is a place where gamers can come and tell of their favorite games, discuss current games, head up gaming contests, and join in on online games that others are playing. It's a place run by gamers and enjoyed by all types of gamers alike.

This proably sounds really stupid ;), but could someone please explain to me how emulators work? I know that you can play old NES games and even N64 games on your computer, but I'm confused as to how you can go about doing that. Haha, I even tried downloading an emulator myself, but all I got was a screen that looked like Windows command prompt or something. I'm confused! Could someone please clarify these programs for me? Thanks. :)

Ahem... anyway... I've not tried n64 for stuff... but the NES and Super NES and aracde stuff is pretty self-explanatory... erm... I'm on my way out or I'd try to help more. :(

They're only illegal if you don't own a copy of the origional game. On the other hand, you can't buy them new anymore...

I'd tell them! :x

But yeah, they are pretty self-explanatory...

Do a Google search for whatever emulator you want... download it. Do a search for whatever game rom you want. Download it. Open emulator. Use emulator to open game. Play game.

Though I will caution that like 85% of rom sites like to advertise for naked cartoon characters and such... :boohoo:

There illegal!!!! i didnt know that!!!!!!!!! i just recently downloaded an xbox emulater, and i have several other nes ones, and hundreds of games......

Well... soon they will all be available again thanks to the Wii, so that argument won't work anymore. :(

I just got some arcade ones, myself... the Punisher game is quite entertaining... :anxious:

Woohoo! \:D/

I found an awesome site the other day that had TONS of MAME (arcade) roms to download... I finally got the old Spider-man arcade game I've long desired and couldn't find! \:D/

There is not to my knowledge a 360 Emu out there...and even if there was to make it run you would need the highest of everything put into your PC...unless you want it looking like a 3D NES.
