The Song Interpreter

At long last, I am opening a Crestwood shop!

It, however, is not your typical shop, as I currently lack the graphical expertise to make (good) signatures, avatars, and other colorful concoctions. To have some fun with some of my strengths, I have opened this particular shop. Welcome to The Song Interpreter! \:D/

A few weeks ago, I was nostalgically listening to the Backstreet Boys song "I Want it That Way," (:anxious:) and it suddenly occurred to me how funny it would be if the song were about eating ice cream: (Ain't nothin' but a heartache...ain't nothin' but a mistake =). I almost immediately had the idea to open a shop with this name for the purpose of "interpreting" songs. Due to the craziness of the last few weeks, I haven't had time to open the shop.

Until now!

It's probably obvious, but just in case: my interpretations are not the real interpretations of the song, but a very fantastical, humorous, and/or crazy misinterpretation by yours truly.

Just a couple guidelines...
-The song must have words :)
-Christian or secular songs will be accepted, but songs must be clean.
-No worship songs, or songs where any misinterpretations would be disrespectful or in poor taste*

*This can be somewhat of a gray area, but I will let you know if I'm not comfortable "interpreting" a song for whatever reason.

Logistics:
1. The price per song is $2
2. Depending on the number of orders and how well my creativity is functioning - not to mention school and other commitments - it may take a little while for me to interpret your song. But rest assured that it will be done!
3. Please post the artist name and song title, but not the lyrics. If I have trouble finding them, I will PM you.
4. I will post the lyrics to the song and my interpretation of it in this thread. I'm not sure exactly what format the interpretation will be in, but I'm guessing it will vary depending on the song.

~*~

I'm not really sure what to expect in this shop, being a new business-owner of a new type of business, but hopefully it works as well in practice as in theory!

Let me know if you have questions, and let the madness begin! :D

Here is my first song interpretation! Thanks for choosing this song, V-lady; it was a great one to start with! I had never heard this song before, so I waited until after I was finished writing the review to listen to it and watch the music video (so it wouldn't influence the results).

I very much enjoyed this hilarious, creative challenge. One interesting element of giving new interpretations to songs (especially those I've never heard before), is that I will most likely associate the new interpretation with the song when I hear it in the future, leading to unexpected moments of amusement :D I'm looking forward to completing the others!

Without further ado, Rush:
Aly and AJ wrote:Rush:

Into your head, into your mind
out of your soul, race through your veins
You can't escape, you can't escape.

Into your life, into your dreams,
Out of the dark, sunlight again.
You can't explain, you can't explain.

Can You feel it, can you feel it,
Rushin' through your hair,
Rushin' through your head,
Can you feel it, can you feel it,

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you try.

Pulling you in, spinning you 'round,
Lifting your feet right off the ground,
You can't believe it's happening now.

Can You feel it, can you feel it,
Rushin' through your hair,
Rushin' through your head,
Can you feel it, can you feel it,

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you try.

It takes you to another place,
imagine everything you can.
All the colors start to blend,
Your system overloads again.

Can You feel it?

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you try.

Don't let nobody tell you,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Don't let nobody tell you,
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over,
Be every color that you are,
Into the rush now,
You don't have to know how,
Know it all before you try

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
This song describes the experience, both physically and emotionally, of riding a roller coaster for the first time. The You can't escape line toward the beginning refers to the very real experience of being stuck on the roller coaster once you are buckled in and the ride has started. More vivid examples can be found in the chorus:

Don't let nobody tell you, your life is over
= Don’t believe your big brother or his friends when they tell you that you will fall out of your seat.
Be every color that you are
= Embrace whatever you feel on the roller coaster, whether you are green with nausea, red with embarrassment, purple with pain, blue with cold, or... something else with fear.
Into the rush now,
= Go with the flow and scream and raise your arms like everyone else!
You don't have to know how,
= Don’t be self-conscious; everyone looks stupid on roller coasters
Know it all before you try.
= Nevertheless, learn all about roller coasters beforehand

Part of the song, however, seems to add a new dimension to the roller coaster-riding experience:

It takes you to another place,
= you really will be flung from the coaster!
imagine everything you can.
= …before you land somewhere!
All the colors start to blend,
= nausea, pain, embarrassment, and fear all rolled into one
Your system overloads again.
= you really hadn’t expected to survive, but you did! Now it’s back in line for another ride! \:D/

Conclusion: Whether this song has ominous undertones or not is debatable, but either way it promotes the positive values of optimism even in worst-case scenarios!

I just stumbled upon your shop this afternoon... what an awesome idea! :D

I'd love to have you interpret a song for me, but it looks like you have a bunch on hands already. Perhaps you should limit users *coughlikeChristinacough* to one per week or something. ;)

Give me a song, and I'll come up with own crazy ideas for what it could mean. Read what I did for the song Rush (earlier in this thread) for an example.

Yes, I may have to change some of my policies soon, due to this sudden surge of demanding customers. ;) We'll see how this weekend goes...

Carrie Underwood wrote:All-American Girl:

Since the day they got married,
He'd been praying for a little baby boy.
Someone he could take fishing,
Throw the football and be his pride and joy.
He could already see him holding that trophy,
Taking his team to state.
But when the nurse came in with a little pink blanket,
All those big dreams changed.

CHORUS
And now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American Girl.

Sixteen short years later,
She was falling for the senior football star.
Before you knew it he was dropping passes,
Skipping practice just to spend more time with her.
The coach said "Hey son, what's your problem? Tell me, have you lost your mind?"
Daddy said you'll lose your free ride to college, boy you better tell her goodbye.

CHORUS
But now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American...

And when they got married and decided to have one of their own,
She said "Be honest, tell me what do you want?"
And he said "Honey, you oughta know... Sweet, little, beautiful... one just like you. Oh a beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American..."

Now he's wrapped around her finger,
She's the center of his whole world.
And his heart belongs to that sweet little beautiful, wonderful, perfect All-American Girl.
Oh American Girl.
This story is described in more (and accurate) detail in the book Barbie: The Untold Story, which, yes, is about the girl who inspired the famous doll. While this song puts a very positive, romantic spin on her ability to be "the center of his whole world," the untold story in its entirety is not so pretty. Because the book showed her true colors, she caused it to be immediately banned, and the author has gone into hiding... but not before a small minority read it and realized the truth.

What is that truth? This girl, "Barbie," had unseen mind control powers that caused not only her dad and boyfriend to be "wrapped around her finger," but many others as well. In fact, whoever thought the phrase "sweet-little-beautiful-wonderful-perfect-All-American-Girl" when they saw her would instantly dedicate their lives and fortunes to her, and would have a hard time breaking the "spell." As soon as Barbie realized this, she began to use it to her advantage to manipulate people and get what she wanted.

This song was written by her (under a pseudonym, of course) because her big corporation is struggling, and she needs more employees and financial support. Thus, when people hear this song with that special phrase - and see the picture of her that comes with each CD - many will come flocking in, eager to lend a hand.

Can you interpret Our Song by Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift wrote:I was riding shotgun with my hair undone in the front seat of his car
He's got a one-hand feel on the steering wheel
The other on my heart
I look around, turn the radio down
He says baby is something wrong?
I say no nothing I was just thinking how we don't have a song
And he says...

[Chorus:]

Our song is the slamming screen door,
Sneakin' out late, tapping on your window
When we're on the phone and you talk real slow
Cause it's late and your mama don't know
Our song is the way you laugh
The first date "man, I didn't kiss her, and I should have"
And when I got home ... before I said amen
Asking God if he could play it again

I was walking up the front porch steps after everything that day
Had gone all wrong and been trampled on
And lost and thrown away
Got to the hallway, well on my way to my lovin' bed
I almost didn't notice all the roses
And the note that said...

[Repeat Chorus]

I've heard every album, listened to the radio
Waited for something to come along
That was as good as our song...

Cause our song is the slamming screen door
Sneaking out late, tapping on his window
When we're on the phone and he talks real slow
Cause it's late and his mama don't know
Our song is the way he laughs
The first date "man, I didn't kiss him, and I should have"
And when I got home, before I said amen
Asking God if he could play it again

I was riding shotgun with my hair undone
In the front seat of his car
I grabbed a pen and an old napkin
And I... wrote down our song
