Eugene's Colloquialisms

Your favorites?

Whit's wiping down the counter, Connie's mopping the floor, and the kids are sipping on their milkshakes. If you want to talk about Adventures in Odyssey the radio drama, this is the spot to do just that!

Eugene's Colloquialisms

Post by Trent DeWhite »

To borrow from HarlowRoxMySox's Bernard-isms thread, how many of Eugene's colloquialisms can you name? Any particular favorites? No peeking at the complete guide! [-X

Eugene: "I am without perspiration."
Translation: "No sweat."

Yes, I cheated, but only b/c this is such a wonderful quote:

"I was powering my two-wheller along this concrete pathway when your personage suddenly appeared directly in front of me, blocking my path. My reflexes immediately sprang to life in an attempt to navigate an evasive maneuver around you while still maintaining my course and speed, but I overcompensated and my Schwinn careened off of the hardened path, taking me with it, and upended us both in this schrub-a rhododendron of the heath family, I believe, deducing from the lengthy evergreen leaves as distinguished from the deciduous azalea."

Translation: "I crashed my bike into this bush because you got in my way."

Quote by Eugene: "Why would Mr. Whittaker want to don the apparel of a primate?"
Translation: Why would Whit want to dress up like a monkey?

I use that phrase like all of the time. My mom is used to it by now, but when I say it in front of other people, they look at my really strangely, and I'm like "Never mind." Because it would take too long to explain...

The same thing happens to me when I say "To borrow the collocialism" (I know that's spelt wrong)

It's funny what we pick up from the show, huh? I was the only one in my english class that could say the word "preverbial" the other day. Everyone else just looked at the word and how no idea how to pronounce it.

same here. one time we had "lachrymose" for a vocab word, and i said something like" oh yeah haven't you ever heard of lachrymose?" and everyone looked at me like i was crazy even my teacher. I didn't know how i knew it, i just did. I am now thinking it must be something eugene says, becuase i have no idea where else i could have learned it. it means tearful, or sad.

Whit's granddaughter Jennie tells her mom Janna that crying is a "waste of lachryimal (sp?) fluid" in "The Reluctant Rival" when she was insulted by Sandra Underwood and her friend Rebekah. That could be what you're thinking of. :)

You are absolutely right. Either I just blanked out (#-o) or someone was being mischievous (:-k). (Probably just me being dumb.)

Yeah, the lacrimal fluid as produced by her lacrimal glands.

Gotta love it when young kids possess and demonstate their extensive vocabulary. :D

Indeed, young Guinevere (or did Eugene refer to her as Gueneveve) was quite an interesting character, even though she only appeared in a limited number of episodes. To bring this thread back on topic . . .

Eugene: "Simply make your pronouncement."
Translation: "Just say the word."

According to what other people including Jennie herself say her real name is Jennifer.
