Billy Budd, Sailor

What do you think?

"Books? You want books?! Ha! We've got books on hairy otters, on onions and on mars! All the fungus you could care for, plus, three triple zillion stars. We've got books on flossing teeth, plus three books on tossing sheep. If we spent our lives just counting books, we'd never get to sleep!" -Leopold the Librarian ("The Great Wishy Woz")

Billy Budd, Sailor

Post by Chandler »

Has anyone been listening to the current Radio Theatre shows? I believe that Billy Budd is only 3 shows but I'm not entirely certain there's much of a storyline. A sailor gets impressed by His Majesty's Navy and has to work on the H.M.S. Indomitable. There is a guy on board who doesn't like him and accuses him of crime. Billy Budd doesn't know his background but those looking at him speculate it's nobility. :-k I've heard the first 2 shows and I'm wondering how much of this they'll explore in the 3rd show... especially since I think I know what happens to Billy Budd (from Literature). They say this was the last work of Herman Melville who is famous for authoring "Moby Dick" considered the first American epic. I get this impression that this book must've been a lot shorter. I'm interested to see how it turns out.

When I first heard "Billy Budd, Sailor" I couldn't really keep up with all the characters and terms so I didn't really enjoy it (though it got a little bit better at the end). On second listen, I was able to keep up and enjoyed it more. If you liked the first two parts of the audio, you'll love the third part. It's really very interesting.
