Post by Moontide »

Guess a number and the person who is closest to the number I am thinking of wins $100. I will end this contest some time tomorrow.

The number is between 100 and 0 inclusive

Dangling prepositions are things I can't deal with. :noway:

Perhaps you could give us a bit of a "Hot and Cold" sort of thing?
Or "Higher and Lower?"

Dangling prepositions are good and fine in my opinion.

I should have mentioned this in the OP, but the number is between 100 and 0 inclusive. If you want to change your guesses given this new information you can.

It's either
3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939937510582...
or
6.28318530717958647692528676655900576839433879875021...

AND DANGLING PREPOSITIONS WILL GET YOU NOWHERE. :noway:

NEVER BEGIN YOUR SENTENCES WITH "IFS," "ANDS" or "BUTS."

Ifs are very good for the starts of sentences. For example: "If I was on the moon, I would be wearing a spacesuit" is perfectly standard English.

Then I change to 42. Because it is the answer to life, the universe, and everything.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I love your literalness!

78, perhaps? Do we win anything if we guess correctly?

But only if that sentence ended with a question mark.

If it ended with a question mark, it would be standard English, I believe.
---- edit ----
The number I was thinking of is 22, which I chose using a random number generator. Thus, it appears that Tikvah was the closest and thus she wins $100.

GUESS MY FAVORITE NUMBER AND I'LL GIVE YOU $300.

THERE IS NO TIME LIMIT, THOUGH YOU MUST GUESS THE EXACT VALUE.
I WILL GIVE "Higher/Lower" HINTS, BUT ONLY ONCE PER 48 HOURS PER-PERSON (ie. if you make a guess, and I tell you "higher," and I will not answer "higher/lower" for another of your guesses unless that guess has been made at least 48 hours after the previous guess).

THE NUMBER IS BETWEEN 1 AND 100,000.
OK, GO!

...

ACTUALLY, I'M GOING TO MAKE THIS IN ANOTHER THREAD.
