....Laptops. I've been using one, and....I don't like the keyboard very much.. Are you using a laptop or Desktop? Which do you like better?

I use a desktop, but my mom has a lap-top, which I'll use ocasionaly. I prefer the desktop over the laptop though, because the laptop is hard to type on.

I prefer flat panel desktops though... it's almost like you're using a laptop, which a nicer keyboard. :P

I'll probably get a regular keyboard and mouse to hook up to my laptop... when I actually get a laptop.

Laptops vs Desktops.......

I've had more time on desktop, and everything, and I certianly see nothing wrong with them (my computer that I'm buying when I get my own apt will probably be a desktop..........but that's due to the fact that they're considerably cheaper).

Currently I use a laptop at home. I must admit that it's higly addictive.......laptops are portable (which could be a reason to consider waiting for my own puter until I have enough for a laptop), take up less space (another reason in favor of waiting), and they force me to use the keyboard correctly (ie using the regular number keys rather than using the 10-key pad like I do on a desktop).

I really don't see how the keyboard on a laptop is any harder nor different from a desktop (unless your desktop keyboard is areodynamic [yes, I probably mispelled that]......which imo is the best kind of keyboard to use). If you're using a standard keyboard on your desktop then there's really not a whole lot of a difference...........maybe that's just me.

Some argue that they don't like the touch pad for a mouse (which I must agree I really don't like, but don't find difficult to use)......in that case you can always hook up an external mouse..........the only reason I would do so is for computer games that I "need" an external mouse for since I'm not use to playing using a touch pad...........but I'm relly not into the whole computer games thing much anymore nowadays, so that really isn't an issue.

Another good thing about laptops........if you take a train, bus, or plane anywhere laptops make time go faster. I've traveled with frineds who had a laptop........now reading or listening to tapes is cool.......but can get boring after a while........but there are offline computer games that can be played in such cases that can keep one's attention for hours at a time. You're not going to be able to do so with a desktop.

As I said I really see no difference..........I like both about the same........but for the sake of voting I will say that I like laptops better........they're more convienient...........I may have to reply to this again in a month or so to let ya'll know what computer I ened up buying upon getting into my own apt. The more I think it over, I'm thinking it may end up being a laptop due to the space factor.......esp if I end up moving (again) space is a huge plus when you have a compact Toyota Camry from the pre-historic ere to try to pack things into.

I prefer laptops to desktops if they have good specs. My existing laptop has approximately no battery life... so I don't use it all that much, although the hardware specifications are generally pretty good considering it's almost two years old... Might be getting a newer one later, though.

I use both a laptop and desktop equally. I don't like one over the other, but each one does have unique benefits.

I find both keyboards the same. I do, however, like an optical mouse much better than a touchpad (I despise eraserheads).

Upgradeability is also an important issue. As a gamer and geek, I often upgrade my computer equiptment. Desktops are much easier to due, and have more options for hardware upgrades.

Another advantage to desktops is a larger display that can be changed at any time.

On the other hand, laptops are portable. They are also smaller. Very convenient for on the go work.

It basically comes down to this. When I am at home, I usually use my desktop, and I take my laptop almost everywhere I go.

I've never really used a lap-top. We only have a desktop here at home, so... I think I'll get a lap-top sometime, like when I go to college or so.

I like using laptop keyboards on occasion. I like the noise they make, it's all spiffy. Ha ha, sorry about that. Anyway the screen's much harder to see then a monitor, but with laptops you can take them all over the place, well, not exactly true cuz they're still really heavy most of the time, but definately more mobile a monitor and a CPU. Plus, do you have to buy speakers for most laptops? Or just some? Or are they built in. I wouldn't know, the only ones I use are the ones in the Library at my High School. *sigh* I'm not rich enough to afford buying my own, nor getting my own computer. My whole family shares two computers. We used to fight all the time, but getting a second computer fixed it. Yayness!

I'd like one, if I had a nice little Laptop it would be a lot easier for me to accomplish some of the things I do.

Has anyone seen the commercial (don't worry, if you've seen it, it's quite relevent) where the husband tries to hide what he's doing on the computer as she comes down the stairs? He presses Ctrl-Alt-dl over and over again, but it won't go away, and his wife is coming closer and closer...until, as she turns the corner he slams the Monitor on his desk, sheilding the screen.

And the next picture is over a lap-top, along with someone easily being able to close and open it.

Overall, the commercial did a right thing for the wrong reasons...

I work on my laptop daily . . . a good half-dozen hours minimally.

I certainly prefer using a mouse [connected via the USB port] over the laptop's touchpad. Seing as how I actively use the shortkeys ALT + TAB to switch between programs (thus, my left hand is generally placed on the keyboard), I find it easier using a mouse.

Mobility is generally a huge plus with laptops. If you're ever away from home, you can always get some work done by bring the laptop . . . and now that wireless networks are becoming more of more frequent in public areas, internet connection no longer requires cables. \:D/ Although, I doubt everyone wants to be connected to an unsecure network. :-k

If you're really into PC gaming, obviously a laptop won't do as well . . . because all the specs required for games nowadays, you'd have to purchase a rather expensive laptop to be able to play the more memory-demanding games. Like "Me" said, it's considerably easier upgrading a desktop then it is upgrading a laptop . . .

You would be hard pressed to find a laptop without builtin speakers these days.

I've had to buy almost all of my own computer stuff since 7th grade. It gets rather expensive, but if you know where to go online, you can get a really good deal.

In May, I plan to buy a new computer for video editing. It's almost top of the line, and I'm only going to spend $1500 on it.

Specs:
MB: MSI Neo 4 platinum (includes RAID 5 and 3 PCI-Xpress slots, serial ATA, dual GB lan, etc).
CPU: Athlon 64 3500+
RAM: 2gb. dual channel pc3200
HD: 80gb internal for system files, 250 external for video (I already have this)
DVD Burner: LiteON 12x (already have this)
Display: dual 19" pure flat CRT's
Video card: any generic PCI-X card that supports dual monitor.
Audio: M-Audio FW-410 (Already have this).

That's all I can remember right now. Most of the other stuff will be generic.

I'm using a wonderfully annoying Hewlett Packard desktop. But the price was right (free) so I can't complain.

Yes...I love laptops. You can carry them around virtually anywhere. However, I always hook up a keyboard to the laptop when I use it on my study desk, since I dislike how the laptop keyboard feels, and I find it impossible to type on a laptop keyboard as well as I type on a "normal" keyboard. It just doesn't have this....I don't know...."feel" to it.

I usually use a laptop, though I still use a desktop sometimes (mainly during weekends and summertime) and I've come to prefer my laptop. The keyboard doesn't bother me, and I really like having "page up", "page down", "home" and "end" keys on the far right side, easily accessible, instead of the the middle right somewhere. One thing that I don't like is that my watch gets in the way when I type on my laptop, so I usually take it off so it doesn't irritate me. It isn't a big thing, so I still prefer my laptop!

I'm not sure what this thread isn't at Finneman's Market but oh well. :-k
There are advantages and disadvantages to both kinds of computers. For my first computer I chose to buy a desktop with a flat panel but I do hope to purchase a laptop someday. =P~

Having a labtop would be cool, but I dont have the money to buy one. I would love on because I could just lay on my bed and talk online. I have a desktop, its so much cheaper and I can get more for the price. In the end I dont really need a labtop because everywhere I go I have a computer with internet access, except my room.
