What books are you reading?

In the same vein as movie/music threads...

"Books? You want books?! Ha! We've got books on hairy otters, on onions and on mars! All the fungus you could care for, plus, three triple zillion stars. We've got books on flossing teeth, plus three books on tossing sheep. If we spent our lives just counting books, we'd never get to sleep!" -Leopold the Librarian ("The Great Wishy Woz")

Born of Persuasion is an excellent read Catspaw.
You're right, Laurie! It really grabbed my attention, and I realized about halfway through that I wasn't going to get answers by the end of the book, which made me really glad that I already had the whole series. I can't imagine reading the first one and then having to wait! I'm already halfway through the second book in the series, "Mark of Distinction." I have rarely read a book/series where I really don't have solid predictions for what will happen. Sometimes I don't know know things will happen, but I can guess at the general gist of things, but Jessica Dotta apparently isn't the kind of author who writes that way! It's both good and bad, since I can hardly put my book down!
You were right to wait. Me, I can never, ever wait for new books, I have to have them as soon as I can get them. Call it what you will. When I read the first book I had to wait for the second. Then I read the second and had to wait for the third. I've had the third book for quite a while and have yet to read it.:shrugs:

I had to look up the author, but when I saw the books, I know that I've seen the covers before, but I haven't read any of them. Would you recommend them?

I often buy books by favourite authors right away, and sometimes I will read them immediately, but often I'll wait until more in the series are out if I haven't read any of that series yet. I like to read a series together if I can. It depends on how busy I am and how many other books I have waiting for me sometimes! I just finished the second one, and it ended at a spot that makes me want to pick up the third one right away to get a final resolution, but I also kind of want to wait and just enjoy things not being so crazy before starting the third one, because there's still a lot of problems and stuff that will need to happen in that book!

I would. Definitely. If you're into the kinda futurey sci-fi stuff. It's pretty good. They are remakes of original fairytale characters. Like, Cinderella, Cinder, is a cyborg..... :)

I like fairy tales redone, though I'm not much for sci-fi. It wouldn't hurt me to expand my horizons a bit, I guess. ;) I'll have to see if my local library has the first one so I can give it a try! :D

I finished "Price of Privilege" last night, the third book in the series I've been posting about reading. I don't cry during books very often, but the end of this one made me cry. The series takes you through a journey with a lot of twists and a ton of character growth, and the ending was really well done, but also appropriately not perfectly happy. I would definitely recommend the series!

My next book is "Princess Ever After" by Rachel Hauck, book two in her Royal Weddings series. I want a lighter read after all the plot twists of my last series, and for some reason my dad decided to read the first book, so now I want to read the second one before he wants it! My dad does read a variety of fiction, but I thought the wedding theme might scare him away from this series. Apparently not. ;)

Tomorrow? :anxious: O:) If it makes you feel better, between paper books and Kindle books, I probably have at least one hundred unread books available to me right now. Possibly more. I read a lot, but sometimes I acquire faster than I read, especially if I get busy. I really do still plan to read it! Now that you've reminded me, I will try to read it this week.

Official Announcement: I am going to read Woody's book really soon!

I am pleased to report that I am halfway through reading this book:
As promised, I am finally reading Woody's first book, and I am enjoying the story! There's plenty of action and adventure, and the characters feel mostly like real people...who just happen to be caught up in some extraordinary events!

I'm also reading "While Love Stirs" by Lorna Seilstad, the second book in her Gregory Sisters trilogy. The third one is supposed to be out soon (April? May? I forget) so I wanted to make sure I read the second one. It's an enjoyable book that seems to have plenty of historical detail. A little on the light side sometimes, but not in a bad way, if that makes sense. Some things just come together a tad on the easy side. I really enjoy the characters, especially since it also continues stories that were started in the first book.

I'm currently reading First Things First by Stephen Covey, though I'll probably only be reading it today and tomorrow. I finished the last book I brought on this trip (Forgive to Live by Dr. Dick Tibbits) so picked up First Things First for $0.49 at a Goodwill. It'll hold me over, but once I get home I have other books higher on my priority list.

I finished The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn by Lori Benton, excellent as it had a twist at the end that I was not expecting. I love books like that!! I am now reading On Shifting Sand by Allison Pittman, very good so far.

Currently plowing through a Physics textbook, a Human Anatomy textbook, and a Spanish textbook...

I started The Fellowship of the Ring over the weekend though, and I'm loving it so far \:D/

I know I'm probably the only homeschooler on the face of the planet who hasn't read that series yet, so I decided to remedy that while I still have some semblance of free time. It's great so far :)

Wow, that sounds so super fun! ;)

I'm reading "Lizzy and Jane" by Katherine Reay. It's an interesting book about estranged sisters with different stuff going on in their lives that bring them closer together again, including Jane Austen books and cooking based on novels that they love. It's one of those books that I probably won't read again for a while once I finish it, but it is really good!

I'm now reading The Anatomy of Peace. Very good read--much more accessible and "light" reading than other similar books I've read.

I finished After a Fashion by Jen Turano this morning. Excellent book and it had a twist at the end that I was not expecting. I am now reading Wonderful Lonesome by Olivia Newport. It is the first book in her Amish Turns or Time trilogy/series. Very good so far.
