I just listened to the Kidsboro 3-part series today (I'm behind on the Podcasts ), and thought it'd be nice if we could really have something like that.

Normally I'd try to design a game for this, but as the story pointed out - there are no rules when you start a new city, so there is no real way to make a fully-functional computer / online game to simulate Kidsboro.

Explanation

So why not try creating the city right in this thread?
Consider it an experiment.

The way it works is, you say something has happened, and so it has happened. (But you can't say that your enemy neighbor died from a nuclear explosion.)

The town right now is completely barren, brown dirt - enough to make room for anyone who wants to join the new city.

Event #1

I declare my career to be homebuilding, and I build a moderately-sized mansion for myself, in the center of the town.

I hope someone builds a grocery store or pizza parlor soon because I'm hungry.

I'm in can i be the Mayor and/or the author of the Constitution? BEcauseI have time to do both and I am pretty good at writing stuff like that.

Is it ok if I can be the Treasurer ?

Sure you can, but you have to move into the town first. (You can build your own log cabin.)

Event #2

I build a fence around my 1 acre property.

I plan to establish a government with the first 5 people in the town.

Well I have listened to Kidsboro episodes and I read the first 4 books. So how do I join?

I haven't read the book but I have listened to the episodes. Can I join too?

I guess I will have to build a log cabin. *gets to work right away at the edge of the town near the creek*

"Too many people are throwing trash on the ground I think we should put trash cans around Kidsboro and I will be a garbage man if I have to, and if they don't put trash in the trash cans then they should be fined, what about you SC?"

"That sounds like a good idea. I can't think of any right now...but I'll let you know when I do."

You don't have to ask for a position because there is no leadership; just declare a position.

Here's how I'd like to see the government progress:
- 5 or so people group to form a "rule-making committee;" once the committee is larger than this, we can vote to add or remove members.
- The committee forms an economic plan, imposing taxes, and creating a budget for the income

This will make the "rule-making committee" the leaders, although employees such as the police force will do most of the work.
This committee will be in charge until a larger faction takes over; since we can't have real gang wars on this site (:p) the group with the most people will automatically have control of the town.

So assuming everyone here is in the rule-making committee, I have a proposition:

Event 5

I have a proposition (we have to vote):
We will impose a one-time mandatory tax on all the citizens (unless they don't have the money) of $10 (Town of Odyssey Dollar).
This tax money will go to the treasurer, who will then pay the money to the citizen who can create the best map of our town.

When we have some more citizens, we can impose another tax to pay the committee.

And yes, this will get confusing until we have a memberlist, established committee, and town map.

Event 6

I carelessly leave trash around the city and vote against a paid garbage man.

who will collect the money?
I vote for the garbage man to clean up Kidsboro!

right, sorry, forgot about that.

I think the best we can do is, have the treasurer go around asking each person for money. I'm new to this "money on PHPBB" mod, so there might be a better / automatic way; maybe the committee could sell pins that say, "I support KB!."

That sounds good. I'm just as new as you but it sounds pretty good. (pins?? I'm still trying to figure out all the 'buying' stuff....)
