Re: What Not to Read

Wow, what's with the hate for "A Good Man is Hard to Find." I actually found that story somewhat redemptive... Now I'm desperately curious about what redemptive qualities you observed lol. Do please share, if you don't mind. To be fair, I'll list my reasons for strongly disliking it first...

Beowulf and How Should We Then Live, by Francis Schaeffer.

Beowulf is kind of getting random, but I'm really enjoying How Should We Then Live.

I need to watch it again, but to me the girl seemed somewhat essential to the film.

And what about freedom? Why do most of us believe that freedom is important?

Re: Jeremiah 29:11

I totally agree we can learn something from every word of Scripture, however the question posed at the beginning of this thread was whether we can claim the promise made in Jeremiah. And my answer was no, that specific promise was made to the captives in Babylon. And I would say again that it's not...

Re: Jeremiah 29:11

I think it would be a stretch to say every word in the Old Testament applies to us today. As Christian said Romans 8 has a similar message that is written to believers so why does this message to a specific people in a specific situation also apply to us? I mean if you want to apply ever word of th...

Re: What Not to Read

My post wasn't really directed specifically to anyone in this thread, more just to the general state of affairs that I have perceived among my peers and the public in general. While I probably have no right to, I get extremely frustrated seeing the way some people disdain classic books that our mode...

Re: Jeremiah 29:11

Well technically all the prophets were addressed to a certain people at a certain time...the whole Bible for that matter. Yet perhaps it wouldn't be a stretch to say that every word in there applies to believers in Christ to some extent? Can we, in this time, claim the promise given in the verse? Th...

Re: What Not to Read

Wow, what's with the hate for "A Good Man is Hard to Find." I actually found that story somewhat redemptive... And "The Republic"... I think people should decide for themselves whether they want to read something or not, and if you didn't like something because you had to read it...

Re: Favourite poems

I love most any poetry. I really like Robert Louis Stevenson, though. He has always been one of my favorites. I also like Robert Frost. Though, I enjoy writing it more than reading it. (Even if my poems aren't very good. Haha.) I haven't shown many people my poetry, though. . . You should post some...

Re: What was the topic of your church's teaching today?

The main service was about giving back to God...yup, it's approaching the end of the church's fiscal year. And the high school service was about homosexuality. I actually thought my youth pastor handled the topic quite well. I got a bit tired of all the apologizing for how horrible the Church treats...

I had no intention of making fun of cellogirl or telling her she was wrong, so if I came off that way, I apologize.

Re: Favourite poems

I don't really like poetry but I did enjoy "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe when I read it for lit class :) So you do like poetry. The Raven = poetry. You like The Raven = You like poetry. Logic, my friend. \:D/ Looking at it a little differently, The Raven = a poem. You like The Raven = yo...

Re: An African short film

Wow, that was very good. Everything was well-done, but since you're hoping for feedback, the transitions at the beginning seemed really fast or something. I don't know, I wouldn't normally notice something like that but I did for some reason. It kind of worked though, with the scenery and the genera...
