I agree with Septimius' suggestion of La Vida E Bella. I also suggest Au Revoir, Les Enfants, a French view of WWII by Louis Malle.

Additionally (though I'm not sure if it's been mentioned already) are several of the Jane Austin adaptations from A&E like "Pride and Prejudice" or "Sense and Sensibility." I haven't yet seen a film adaptation of "Persuasion", but hopefully there will be one soon.

Also, for the older kids, Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain (The Fabulous Life of Amélie Poulain) isn't a bad film, if you are able to excuse some of it's "French-ness".

The only titles I can think of at the moment are...
Lord of the Rings (All of them, especially "The Return of the King")
Star Wars (All six, III is my favorite)
Castle in the Sky (This is not a stupid anime project. Great story!)
Les Misrables (1998) (I'm aware I spelled that incorrectly. ;) )
My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Cars, The Incredibles (Mainly, all Pixar movies are funny Disney classics)
Luther (A powerful story of one man's convictions)

I think The Shawshank Redemption is a must-see movie. Although it has an "R" rating, it has perhaps one of the best movie endings ever.

I'm going to add Glory to my previous list. Even if you're not into war movies--and I'm not--this one is very good. I'm not into war movies (like I said), but if I had to make a list of the 10 best movies--based on my opinion--this would be on the list.

How about The Man Who Knew Too Much, with Jimmy Stewart and Doris Day? I just re-watched that recently, and I really enjoyed it both times I've seen it.

Most newer movies are covered, so I too am going to go with older movies.

The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance - Excellant movie! With Jimmy Stewart and John Wayne. Not your typical Western.

Foreign Correspondent

The Birds[/b] (Old special effects perhaps..but enjoyable nonetheless)

Lifeboat (Another Hitchcock)

Mr. Smith Goes to Washington
You Can't Take it With You
Sherlock Holmes
(With Basil Rathbone)

I'll think of more later...
